A Funny Sound

It's autumn in Philadelphia and the sound of acorns hitting cars is in the air. Incoming! It is not unlike someone up in a tree throwing rocks at you. But alas, the season is changing and it is time for another newsletter.

Ageless

I opened my show “Fictions” in February at the Julie Nester Gallery in Park City, Utah. Thanks to Julie and Doug Nester. The show was a success, and they were gracious hosts. You can visit the gallery online here: http://www.julienestergallery.com

We had a wonderful reception, with old friends and family turning up. Showing in my home town is always a little scary when someone greets you that looks really old and you realize you went to high school with them. Fortunately I still look the same.

We got to go skiing! Kiki has become quite a skier, as she has never really skied before. She took one lesson and she was off. She was flying down the hill care free and seemingly an expert! It must be all that yoga and time at the gym.

New Continent

I opened an exhibit at Weber Fine Art Gallery this June in Scarsdale, New York. The title “New Continent” is from a Wallace Stevens poem, as are most of my titles. It conjured up for me this vision of a new world, discovery and exploration, but one that happened a long time ago. I’m fascinated with how the passage of time transforms everything in its path. What was new becomes old, and what was important becomes irrelevant.

Degrees of Perception

Hats off to everyone at Robischon Gallery in Denver for all the effort put into my exhibit “Degrees of Perception,” which opened in August. I went out for the opening, and I love Denver. I just love the west. I really am a westerner. I grew up in Salt Lake City, and the minute I see those mountains out the airplane window I get excited. It's primal! I know some people in this part of the world have that feeling about the Jersey Shore the minute they hit the Atlantic City Expressway. It’s that way for me when I see the Rocky Mountains. It's all wonderment and a sense of being home.

Some like it Hot!

My friend Luanne McKinnon, who is the Director and Curator at the Cornell Fine Arts Museum in Winter Park, Florida, included me in a great show called "Revising Arcadia: The Landscape in Contemporary Art." Kiki and I went down for the opening early this September, and met L.C. Armstrong and Dennis Blagg, two amazing artists in the show.

We are going back to Miami near the end of the year. I am teaming up with the Projects Gallery of Philadelphia. I will be in their booth at the Bridge Art Fair, which will be happening in conjunction with Art Basel Miami. The booth will be at the Catalina Hotel & Beach Club in room 212. I am excited to be working with Frank Hyder and his wife Helen. The fair runs from December 7th to 10th.

In February 2007 I will be in a show at the Armory Art Center in West Palm Beach where I will also be teaching a workshop for painters called "Collage & Paint: The Intersection of Concept, Materials & Paint." It will run from February 12-16, 2007.

We’re going to Press

Tandem Press is in the process of completing the limited editions of the two prints I worked on in collaboration with them this April.
